Every photo taken with a phone or a camera embeds a technical record called EXIF. It holds the make and model of the device, its settings, the date and time to the second, sometimes its serial number, and above all, if location was enabled, the exact coordinates of the place where the shutter was pressed. That record travels with the file: it survives copying, emailing and messaging.
Who can read them, and when does it matter?
Anyone who receives the file. It takes no special skill, only the file's properties panel. Large social platforms strip metadata when you publish, which explains why the subject is often dismissed. But an attachment, a file sent over a messaging app in original quality, a photo posted on a forum or on a small classified-ads site: those keep everything. A picture of a child in front of a home, an item for sale, a document photographed on a desk, all say where they were taken.
How does this tool work?
The file is read inside the page and never uploaded. Cleaning copies the bytes while skipping the metadata segments: the image itself is not re-encoded, so the cleaned photo is identical to the original, pixel for pixel, with no loss of quality. The one exception on this page is the map link, which you have to click deliberately.

Is my photo uploaded to your server?
No. The file is read inside your browser and never leaves your device, neither the original nor the cleaned version. You can cut your connection: the tool still works.
Does cleaning reduce the quality of my photo?
No. The tool copies the image bytes as they are and only skips the metadata segments. There is no re-encoding, so the cleaned photo is identical to the original, pixel for pixel. Only the file size drops, by exactly the weight of the removed metadata.
Do social networks already remove metadata?
The large platforms strip them when you publish. But a photo sent as an email attachment, shared in original quality over a messaging app, or posted on a forum or a classified-ads site keeps everything, GPS coordinates included.
How do I stop my phone recording the location?
On iPhone, in Settings, Privacy, Location Services, Camera, choose Never. On Android, in the camera app settings, turn off location tags. That prevents the problem at the source, which is better than cleaning afterwards.
Does the map link send my coordinates somewhere?
Only if you click it, and it is signalled as such. It opens OpenStreetMap with the coordinates in the address. It is the one action on this page that leaves your browser, and it is entirely your choice.
