APT (advanced persistent threat)
A highly organised, well-funded attacker who settles in for the long term to spy or sabotage over time.
An APT ("advanced persistent threat") refers to a sophisticated attacker, often linked to a state or organised crime, that targets a specific target over time. Rather than a quick hit, they seek to stay discreet and keep access for a long time, for espionage or sabotage. Against them, detection and the ability to respond matter as much as prevention.
