Data breach
When data ends up exposed or in the wrong hands, following an attack, a mistake or a misconfiguration.
A data breach is the exposure or theft of information: contact details, passwords, internal documents. It can come from a hack, a human error or a database left accessible by mistake. When personal data is involved, the organisation must notify the CNIL, in principle within 72 hours.
