Identity and access management (IAM)
The set of tools that manage accounts and decide who is allowed to access what.
IAM serves to create, manage and remove accounts, then to control what each person can do. It checks identity (who you are) and rights (what you are allowed to do), granting only what is necessary. It is a foundation of security, because most attacks aim precisely to obtain access.
